Job Title: General Ledger Accountant

Job Description

  • The Accounts payable manager in a dynamic and fast-paced environment will work with a team of other experienced professionals across BAT’s Sub-Saharan Africa Area.
  • You will be responsible for providing strong leadership to the business’ accounts payable team.
  • The accounts payable manager's responsibilities include maintaining accurate records regarding payments to suppliers, processing payments to vendors, supplier reconciliations and training staff members.

What You Will Be Accountable For

  • Managing accounting functions like maintaining the payables/creditors general ledger, month-end closing, and expense reporting
  • Undertaking reconciliation of supplier statements
  • Negotiating payment terms with vendors and suppliers
  • Executing vendor payment runs and assessing tax related processes
  • Ensuring accuracy of financial statements and payment transactions
  • Maintaining and updating vendor databases

Essential Experience, Skills, and Knowledge

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field - mandatory
  • Finance and accounting background, with a minimum of 3 years work experience.
  • Professional accounting qualifications (ICAN, ACCA, CIMA)
  • FMCG sector experience will be an added advantage.
  • Critical problem solving, interest in analysing business data with attention to detail
  • Good knowledge of working with ERP systems and Microsoft office applications – added advantage
  • Business Partnering skills - ability to develop good working relationship with key stakeholders. Apply a commercial approach to all activities.
  • Good knowledge of IFRS standards and reporting best practices
  • SAP - strong advantage
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate control issues, risk, impact, and recommendations to management.
