Job Title: Financial Analyst

Location: Yola, Adamawa
Employment Type: Full Time

Job Description

  • The Financial Analyst is responsible for the collation and reconciliation of periodic reports made from various units/departments and assisting in analyzing these reports and providing an abridged version for management use.
  • The incumbent will also regularly evaluate the operations of all units under the Vice President Finance’s office to identify and mitigate operational and systematic risks in accordance with the policies and procedures of the American University of Nigeria.

Detailed Listing of Responsibilities

  • Identify and report financial irregularities while ensuring that necessary steps are taken to address them.
  • Contribute towards ensuring compliance with AUN financial policies and procedures, identifying and proposing modifications when needed.
  • Contribute to decisions regarding financial strategy.
  • Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management.
  • Provide financial statement analysis as needed, especially for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
  • Actively participate in the development of Internal Control Policies and ensuring that they are relevant to the Vice President Finance’s office and the University in general.
  • Conduct risk assessment of Departments and Units under the office of the Vice President Finance.
  • Analyze financial statements of the University and making recommendations to the management.
  • Perform any other task as may from time to time be assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements for the position:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or its equivalent.
  • One to five years (1 to 5 years) working experience in internal control functions.
  • Experience in computerised accounting packages.
  • Experience in reconciliation of control accounts and preparation of accounts.
  • Experience in Microsoft Excel Application.
  • Knowledge of financial and accounting practices and principles.
  • Knowledge of economic principles.
  • Knowledge of auditing practices and principles.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, codes and regulations.
  • Knowledge and experience of related computer applications.
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles.
  • Knowledge of in-depth financial statement analysis including International Financial Reporting Standard (IFRS).
  • Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations.
