Job Title: Economy Recovery Assistant

Location: Mubi, Adamawa
Employment Type: Contract (9 Months with possibility of extension)
Supervised by: Economic Recovery Team Leader
Reporting to: Economic Recovery Team Leader

Purpose

  • DRC Nigeria is looking to recruit a proactive individual as Economy Recovery Assistant with to support livelihoods programming through the provision of business trainings, business grants distribution, cash for work monitoring, and VSLA group formation.
  • An understanding of cash distributions processes and procedures is required for this position.
  • The Economic Recovery Assistant is responsible for the day-to-day monitoring of EcRec activities across DRC’s areas of responsibility (AORs), communicating programmatic needs in targeted locations, supporting the Officers in communicating DRC programme designs to community stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Economic Recovery Team Leader, the holder of this position shall perform the following duties:

  • Ensure beneficiaries are screened, selected, and verified through use of developed targeting criteria in operational areas. Sensitize communities on project objectives, beneficiary selection approaches and timelines to avoid miscommunication on project objectives
  • Provide livelihood guidance, on an individual or group basis, to increase beneficiaries’ awareness of different business options based on market assessment and beneficiary interests.
  • Coordination of Ward level stakeholders in consultation with line manager.
  • Provide information to beneficiaries about livelihood and business development opportunities.
  • Organize/form VSLA groups and monitor the progress of the group.
  • Support in the training of beneficiaries on small business development training, planning, and proposals development.
  • Facilitate the implementation of Cash Transfer programs at ward level; Unconditional/Conditional Cash Grants and Cash for Work
  • Support the organization in trainings and other events related to the project.
  • Establish linkages to adult learning institutions and refer beneficiaries to selected courses.
  • Provide administrative support within the team as required.
  • Submit weekly reports and contribute to compilation of the monthly donor reports.
  • Keep informed of all ward level stakeholders and NGOs working in DRC operational locations.
  • Ensure that protocol is followed through stakeholder consultation at all stages of project implementation.
  • Work closely with the monitoring team and the Economic Recovery Officer on the timely monitoring and evaluation of all components – information, beneficiary selection, beneficiary feedback about activities, etc. Robust monitoring of beneficiaries who have received the 1st and 2nd tranches of business grants to ensure effective and efficient use of the grant.
  • Facilitate the qualitative and quantitative monitoring of the project through team meetings, visits to selected beneficiaries, regular reporting and any other monitoring tools.

Qualifications

  • University Degrees in relevant Social Sciences or Business Management, Sociology, Political Science, Urban Planning Development Studies, Business Development, or other relevant equivalent disciplines
  • Fluency in spoken Hausa
  • Written and spoken English.
  • Experience in Livelihood Programming and training.
  • An understanding of humanitarian context in the Northeast of Nigeria.
  • At least 2 years’ work experience in the field of Cash and Voucher Assistance.
  • Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and deliver under deadlines and timelines.
  • Ability to communicate programme design to community stakeholders.

Desirable:

  • Previous working experience with humanitarian agencies
  • Experience working with displaced populations.
  • Experience with case management protocols desirable.
  • Experience in Microsoft word/excel.
