Job Title: Design Engineer

Location: Abuja, Nigeria
Division / Function: Engineering
Reports to: Director - Hardware and Firmware with a dotted line to VP, Engineering and Innovation

Role Summary

  • Husk is seeking a Design Engineer to join the Engineering team in Nigeria. This individual will play an integral role in providing support to the Engineering Design Team in ensuring the effective, efficient, and timely implementation of all engineering design inputs for HMGs, and C&I installations.
  • We are looking for someone who has the willingness and enthusiasm to grow and learn the technicalities around electrical design and understands the need and use of technology (and its application) in the design of power installations.
  • The individual should also be passionate about contributing to solving one of Nigeria’s most critical challenges – the energy access deficit.

Key Responsibilities
General:

  • Play a key part as a member of the Engineering Team in systems sizing, design, and analysis.
  • Demonstrate ethics and professionalism.
  • Assist in documenting and developing industry best practices, standards and guidelines.
  • Research, document and comply with local and national code requirements in project jurisdictions.
  • Support the optimization of various Husk NG activities to ensure best practices are entrenched towards more efficient processes.

Engineering Design:

  • Create, review, and modify drawing sets and technical inputs in AutoCAD and other custom software tools.
  • Support Engineering and Installation Teams with surveys and feasibility assessments.
  • Complete electrical and structural designs for projects and other design submissions.
  • Work closely within the larger Engineering Team to promptly deliver system designs.

Business Support:

  • Coordinate with site assessors, project managers and sales teams to complete designs’ meeting customers’ expectations within set deadlines.
  • Provide quality inputs and installation support where required during the construction phase.
  • Create bill of quantities (BOQ), bill of materials (BOM) as per design and support the specification of components for the procurement process.
  • Other duties may be assigned from time to time.

Requirements

  • Graduate from a leading institution with a related Degree in Engineering or Sciences. Post-graduate degree and/or related professional qualifications are added advantage.
  • Have basic knowledge of general electrical designs and interpretation of electrical drawings.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent people skills, able to manage, motivate, and discipline if necessary.
  • Familiarity with relevant software including AUTOCAD, HOMERPro, Odyssey, PVSyst, etc.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills are required.
  • A clearly defined strategic thought process and a continuous improvement mindset.

Location and Travel:

  • This role is based in Abuja, Nigeria
  • Will be required to travel to rural areas and plant sites.

Salary
NGN200,000 to NGN300,000 / Month based on experience.
