Data Analyst at Malaria Consortium


Malaria Consortium is one of the world’s leading non-profit organisations specialising in the comprehensive prevention, control and treatment of malaria and other communicable diseases among vulnerable and under privileged populations. We increasingly find our work on malaria can be effectively integrated with other similar public health interventions for greater impact and therefore expanded our remit to include child health and neglected tropical disease interventions.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

 

Job Title: Data Analyst

Location: Abuja (FCT)
Employment Type: Full Time

Job Purpose

  • The Data Analyst will support data analysis, sample size calculations, study design and the epidemiological interpretation of programme and project results.
  • The post-holder will also further develop and support the project’s secondary analyses and documentation of learning through analyses of data sets addressing key disease control questions. 

Scope of Work

  • The role requires the ability keep track of multiple responsibilities, plan and work semi-independently and to use initiative.
  • The Data Analyst will be responsible for supporting SARMAAN 2 data analysis to deliver scientifically robust technical outputs.
  • The Data Analyst will consolidate information from key studies on analyses plans, activities, progress, and impact to identify key learnings and promote best practice within the programme.
  • Alongside this support, the Data Analyst will provide input to the strategic direction and functions of the M & E Manager to ensure the data for NMEP and SMEP score cards are analysed and ready for review at specified period (monthly, quarterly and annual). 

Key Working Relationships:

  • The Data Analysis Expert will report directly to the M & E Manager and will work within a team comprising of the Country and State Senior M & E officers,

Key Accountabilities
Technical Contributions (80%):

  • Support sample size calculations, study design, statistical analysis of projects  data, and contribute to reports to disseminate among partners
  • Explore research questions of interest for SARMAAN 2 using available data through conducting secondary and meta-analyses
  • Participate in building capacity in data management, statistics and data analysis for SARMAAN 2 staff and selected stakeholders, both internally and to the donor
  • Participate with other members of the MEAL team in design and implementation of surveys
  • Provide input in development of project data quality assessments (DQA) plans
  • Support State teams in the conduct of DQAs and audits.
  • Provide technical support to State teams in communicating the results to MoH and partners
  • Participate in the development of tools and  procedures in surveys, rapid assessments, routine data collection and surveillance
  • Supervise M&E activities during project implementation and outputs, quality control data and carry out quarterly project performance assessments and other reports as required

Strategic Contributions (10%):

  • Contribute to the project’s strategies on knowledge management and data use
  • Support log frame development during project set up/inception

Programme Management (5%):

  • Manage M&E activities as requested
  • Participate in the review of programme/M&E narrative reports

Communication and Advocacy (5%):

  • Write peer-reviewed publications on key projects and data analysis exercises
  • Contribute to documentation of lessons learnt from the project’s work including production of learning briefs, learning papers, general documentation and contribution to publications

Person Specification
Essential:

  • Master’s degree in Statistics or Public Health with focus on epidemiology/bio-statistics or demography
  • Knowledge and experience of Monitoring and Evaluation tools and methods in the international development or global health sector
  • Significant experience in the development of  data bases, data entry systems (PDA or phone-based) and statistical analysis software (EpiData, Excel, Access, Stata)
  • Extensive experience working in data management and epidemiology in Nigeria within government, an international organization or research institution
  • Extensive experience in research design and implementation

Desirable:

  • Significant knowledge in malaria
  • Knowledge and experience of disease surveillance mechanisms
  • Working knowledge of DHIS2
