Cultural / Information Officer (CCP) at African Union (AU)


The African Union (AU) is a continental body consisting of the 55 member states that make up the countries of the African Continent. It was officially launched in 2002 as a successor to the Organization of African Unity (OAU, 1963-1999). We are an Integrated, Prosperous and Peaceful Africa, driven by its own citizens and representing a dynamic force in the global arena.

Job Title: Cultural / Information Officer (CCP)

Purpose of Job

  • Coordinate and deliver marketing and communications across a variety of platforms, collecting, collating and sharing information, generating PR for activity delivering the Culture Plan and promoting the local arts and culture community, follow up relations with the media outlet and informing on all activities of the Africa-Arab Partnership.

Main Functions

  • Responsible for external messaging, overall image and reputation of the Division.
  • Create and disseminates key messages describing AU.
  • Ensure communications deliverables adhere to AU standards.
  • Engage with relevant mid-level stakeholders and develop relationships.
  • Contribute to the day-to-day administrative management of the Division.
  • Assist in following up on the activities of the Division, including monitoring and evaluating progress made in line with a predefined strategic plan.
  • Secure and supports high-visibility speaking opportunities for leaders.
  • Work with staff across the organization to support the communications needs of multiple program areas; help align messages and coordinate the release of deliverables across programs.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Develop the basic documents of social and cultural activities planned under the office of the Permanent Delegation
  • Handle tasks related to ongoing projects within the League of Arab states, on the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and reporting phases;
  • Responsible for handling activities with the media and press outlets in Cairo.
  • Responsible for the continuous work with civil societies, the youth and women
  • Participate in the preparation of the monthly meetings for the African Group of Ambassadors in Cairo
  • Organizing Africa Day celebrations and other related events.
  • Follow up on all Africa Arab Cultural Institute (AACI) activities and advise the Institute on measures to be taken
  • Implementing joint Africa–Arab social and cultural action plan and decisions emanating from Africa–Arab Cultural Ministerial Conferences.  
  • Perform all other related tasks as assigned by the Head of the mission.

Academic Requirements and Relevant Experience

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, Communication, International Relations, Social Sciences or any other related field with five (5) years of relevant work experience is required.
  • Experience in NGO or similar multilateral, regional or international institutions will be a good advantage.
  • A diplomatic work environment, public institutions, or similar organizations, with very good exposure to Africa-Arab cooperation, is required
  • Excellent knowledge of the areas of cooperation between African and Arab countries.
  • Knowledge of existing cultural diversity and knowledge of media and communication management is an advantage.

  • Master’s Degree in similar fields with a minimum of 2 (two) years of relevant work experience, in the work environments stated above.

Tenure of Appointment

  • The appointment will be made on a regular term contract for a period of three (3) years, of which the first twelve months shall be considered as a probationary period.
  • Thereafter, the contract will be for a period of two years renewable, subject to satisfactory performance and deliverables.

Languages:

  • Proficiency in one of the AU working languages (Arabic, English, French, Portuguese, and Spanish) and fluency in another AU language is an added advantage.

Remuneration
Indicative basic salary of USD31,073.00 (P2 Step1) per annum plus other related entitlements e.g. Post adjustment ( 48% of basic salary), Housing allowance USD19,103.64  (per annum), and education allowance (100% of tuition and other education-related expenses for every eligible dependent up to a maximum of US$ 10,000.00 per child per annum), for internationally recruited staff and a maximum of $3,300 per child per annum for locally recruited staff.
