Health Initiatives for Safety and Stability in Africa (HIFASS), is a non-profit organization registered in 2007 in Nigeria with a core objective of expanding quality health care and treatment in Africa. Our vision is enhancing healthier and safer communities, while our mission is to collaborate with partners to promote comprehensive and sustainable interventions for public health, support military medicine and health diplomacy for peace, stability and development of communities. Over the years HIFASS has provided manpower and associated support to HJF Medical Research International, Ltd Gte in support of Nigerian Military HIV program across 33 Military Formations.
We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Biomedical Engineer
Location: Yaba, Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time
Reports To: WRP-N Facility Manager and Research
Work Hours: Full-time 40 hours / week
Basic Function
- The incumbent will provide technical support to the laboratory/other facilities in the installation, calibration, preventive and reparative maintenance of all laboratory equipment, appliances, and related equipment.
- The incumbent will be assigned to specific sites as directed. Specific duties will include, but not limited to the following:
Essential Job Functions, Duties and Responsibilities (90%)
- Participate in the installation, calibration, and maintenance, of all equipment and appliances acquired by the organization.
- Monitor and ensure the implementation of contractual agreements on all equipment procured by the organization.
- Engage with the laboratory and clinical team on equipment deployment and provide support to sites.
- Carry out laboratory facility assessment, repair fault detected or advice on maintenance and repair Operate and maintain the Liquid Nitrogen plant.
- Carry out daily checks and monitoring of electricity generators’ performance and ensure availability of power supply in the event of public power outage. Ensure constant water supply to the laboratory for daily activities.
- Provide on-site training to instrument technicians on basic equipment maintenance.
- Make technical input on new equipment procurement and deployment when needed.
- Train operators in the use, care, and maintenance of equipment.
- Respond to equipment fault requests, perform repair services, and preventive maintenance.
- Carry out daily checks and monitoring of all equipment for optimal performance.
- Maintain records (ie: logs) of all equipment such as installation date, warranty, preventive and routine maintenance schedules, fault and repair record, and training.
- Prepare and submit monthly and other periodic activity reports.
Other Duties (10%):
- Primary work site is located at 68 NARHY, however travel to other sites within the organization—international and domestic may be required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Specification
- Minimum Education / Training Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering or its equivalent is required.
- Prior Work Experience: A minimum of 3 years post NYSC experience as a Biomedical Engineer.
- Language Proficiency: Level IV English (fluency in both written and oral) is required
- Required Licenses, Certification or Registration: N/A
- Supervisory Received: Supervision by the Facility Manager (WRP-N) and the Research Manager.
- Other Specification: Candidates must be resident or ready to relocate to Lagos State.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Thorough understanding of the underlying principles of physics and electronics as it applies to laboratory and related medical devices.
- Knowledge and skill in equipment installation, calibration, and preventive maintenance.
- Knowledge of electronic circuitry and technical aspects of operation, repair, and maintenance of electronic equipment.
- Ability to analyze, repair, and test electronic and electromechanical equipment.
- Ability to interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and illustrated parts drawings of biomedical instrumentation.
- Ability and skill to maintain accurate records of repairs, calibration, and tests.
- Ability to move or lift up to 50 pounds (~25 kg) of equipment; to push/pull equipment carts; and to kneel, stand, bend and reach during equipment repair.
- Ability to work as team, take initiative, and multitask with minimum supervision.
- Knowledge of computer applications (minimally Microsoft Suite).
- Knowledge of electro-mechanical, instrumentation, and control systems.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of current regulatory requirements of medical instrumentation.
- Knowledge of computers and how they interface with medical equipment.
Work Environment
- The laboratory supports work of investigators of diverse scientific disciplines and nationalities and requires good interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivities for effective job performance.
Salary
N300,000 - N340,000 monthly.
