3 Methods of Job Search and Application in Nigeria
There are several ways of job search and application in Nigeria. Lets take a look at them.
a) Door-to-Door submission of CV
b) Direct Submission of CV to Somebody who knows somebody (popularly known as IM)
c) Online Submission of CV
Door-to-Door CV submission is the process of going door to door in an area of a town with high concentration of companies where you can submit you CV. This is the most hectic form of job search. You'll usually need to dress well and print multiple copies of your CV before starting off. This method is gradually getting outdated.
Direct Submission of CV to Somebody who knows somebody otherwise known as IM is the easiest and fastest way to get a job in Nigeria. Don't be misled by people who tell you there are no vacancies in a company. The truth is, vacancies can always be created for anybody who knows the right people in any company in Nigeria. Do you know somebody who knows somebody?
Online CV submission is fast becoming the most popular and convenient way of job search and application in Nigeria and in the world in general. However, a good percentage of Nigerians have not embraced this method. From my observation, job search traffic increases by 1000% when there are hot vacancies in a Federal Government parastatal/agency. I ask myself, where have all these people been?
About 60% of job seekers in Nigeria seldom search and apply for jobs online, yet a lot of vacancies (no matter how small the company) come up everyday.
Wouldn't it be necessary to have a repository of CVs where job seekers can submit there credentials on a one-off basis and not have to apply for jobs everyday.
This is where Manpower Nigeria comes in.
