In Nigeria, Save the Children has been working since 2001. The early focus was on getting children actively involved in shaping the decisions that affect their lives. Today, Save the Children is working in seven federal states - Zamfara, Yobe, Jigawa, Katsina, Kano, Bauchi and Kaduna - focusing on providing basic healthcare and protecting children.

Save the Children  is recruiting to fill the position of:

Job Title: New Advocacy Campaign Consultant

Requisition Id: sav-62168
Locations: Abuja and Lagos
Job Type: Temporary
Department: Advocacy

Background
Save the Children launched the EVERY ONE Campaign in October 2009 with the aim of catalyzing breakthroughs in governments’ policy and practice that dramatically accelerate sustainable progress towards MDG 4.

In Nigeria, the Campaign achieved laudable milestones and led very strong policy outcomes at the national and sub-national level which the organization intends to build upon.

The Every One Campaign is coming to an end at the end of 2015 and will be replaced by a new campaign which seeks to ensure that ‘No child is left behind’. Having learnt a lot of lessons in the Every One Campaign, the Nigerian campaign team is ensuring that a multi-sectoral approach will be adopted for the next campaign.

The New Campaign

  • As we move towards the new year, Save the Children will be launching a new 3 year campaign - ‘Reaching Children left Behind’ as part of our 2030 ambition to ensure that ‘’All Children Survive and Thrive’’.
  • Nigeria is one of the priority countries that will receive a lot of attention from the global hub because Nigeria has unfortunately been one of the countries slowing the world down in terms of development indices, and will therefore need to redouble efforts to catch up with the developed world.
  • The new campaign is quite ambitious and aims to contribute significantly towards our journey to 2030 when the world hopes to ensure that all children survive, learn and are protected.
What is new in the coming campaign?
From the foregoing, there are five things that are new in the coming global campaign. They are as follows:
  • Equity - our special attention on children left behind
  • Universality - all children are included such that every child survives, learns and is protected.
  • Adolescent - we shall also include adolescents in the new campaign beyond the focus on children under 5.
  • Life course approach - focusing on the child from conception until s/he passes into productive adulthood
  • Multisectoral approach - ensuring synergy between not just Health as in current campaign but now also engaging all the other sectors requited in supporting children in the life course.
To achieve the above, Save the Children seeks to establish partnerships with stakeholders from different sectors in Nigeria. The identified stakeholders will be invited to a breakfast meeting where they will be introduced to the campaign and get them to commit their support to ensure that special attention is paid to Children left Behind. The same group will also be expected to attend the official campaign launch in March 2016.

Scope of Work
To ensure that relevant stakeholders participate at a breakfast meeting and launch of the new campaign to be held in Lagos State and Abuja, SC is seeking the services of a Consultant to carry out the following.
  • Reaching out to and inviting the attached list of participants to attend the breakfast meeting and campaign launch
  • Participate in pre workshop meetings and weekly calls to coordinate events
  • Provide recommendations on securing and managing the venue for the events
  • Prepare a comprehensive report of the event
  • Get contact numbers and follow up with invitees to ensure that they RSVP and commit or at worst, send a representative.
Period of Engagement
The breakfast meeting has been tentatively scheduled for January (Abuja) and February (Lagos), 2016 in Lagos; while the launch takes place in March 2016. Save the Children will therefore be engaging the potential Consultant from January 4 - March 30, 2016 to ensure enough time for planning the breakfast meetings, Campaign launch, and submission of final report.
