Context
- The IOM Internship Programme provides candidates with the opportunity to learn about IOM's activities, to gain initial work experience, and/or gain knowledge on a broad range of migration technical areas and disciplines.
- Under the overall guidance of the Migration Health Officer and the direct supervision of the Senior Medical Assistant, the interns will assist in supporting and contributing to radiological procedures at the Migration Health Assessment Centre (MHAC) in Lagos, Nigeria. The interns will have the following duties and responsibilities:
Core Functions / Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing the daily chest X-ray worklist and enter the biodata correctly and timely on x-ray reporting template for migrants as needed.
- Assist in verifying the identity of migrants using original passport or valid ID with photo including name, age, and gender to prevent substitution during X-ray taking, and assist in organizing and properly handling the applicants at the radiology reception.
- Assist in providing radiation protection led shields to applicants and performing daily chest x-rays of applicants.
- Assist in providing X-ray related counselling, checking pregnancy for female applicants, and taking consent or cross checking if consent was taken when the applicant is pregnant.
- Assist in performing analysis of key performance indicators in the radiology unit and generating data visualization products, including infographics, and maps
- Provide general administrative and clerical support to the Migration Health Unit
- Internship training components/learning elements:
- Become familiar with the main issues in the field of migration health more broadly.
- Acquire knowledge of radiological procedures, digital radiology system / applications, Teleradiology, data management and integrity measures within the scope of Migration Health
- Become acquainted with the policies of IOM as an international organization, its multicultural environment, and its functioning, especially in the field of migration health
- Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor.
Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor of Science in Radiology or Bachelor of Medical Radiology.
Experience & Skills:
- Priority will be given to those eligible for the National youth service.
- Ability to work effectively both on his/her own and within a team of varied cultural and professional backgrounds.
- Willing to accept flexible work schedule.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Experience in MS Package (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint) would be an asset.
- Typing speed of at least 60 words per minute.
- Interest in Medical Data Management, medical statistics, or Health Informatics is an advantage.
Languages:
- Fluency in English is required (Oral and Written).
